The American College of Rheumatology has announced revised classification criteria – created in collaboration with the European League Against Rheumatism – for rheumatoid arthritis.
The criteria, which replace guidance last drawn up in 1987, are designed to allow patients to enter clinical trials at earlier stages of the disease than previously – before joint damage occurs – ultimately leading to better patient outcomes, according to the college.
