Children's ward nursing staff suspended over 'restraint'

A group of nursing staff have been suspended from a children’s ward following a complaint that a baby was restrained, it has been reported.

NHS bosses and police officers said they were investigating an incident at Lincolnshire’s Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Five nurses have reportedly been suspended.

According to the BBC, the alleged incident took place on the hospital’s Disney Ward, where both newborn babies and 16-year-old children are treated.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals Trust’s head of governance, Wendy Booth, said: “We can confirm an incident has occurred which the trust is investigating.

“We are keeping the family fully informed. It would not therefore be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

The NHS trust said they would not confirm any details regarding the incident.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “Police can confirm that a complaint is being investigated following an incident at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

“This is currently in the very early stages and police are working closely with the NHS trust to fully establish the circumstances of the case.”
