MHRA issues emergency ventilator warning

  • Comment

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a warning to nurses and midwives about a type of emergency ventilator.

The MHRA has said it was aware of three incidents where the Oxylog 3000 did not give enough ventilation to small children when set to a low tidal volume.

The agency said this was because the dead space volume of the entire breathing circuit was too big to cope with a small set tidal volume.

It has recommended that practitioners consider using a different device if the dead space is too small for the patient.
