Nurses urged to nominate colleagues for children's charity awards

  • Comment

National children’s charity WellChild has opened nominations for its 2015 awards, which will honour “inspirational” health professionals.

As well as highlighting the bravery of sick children, the annual event celebrates the dedication of the people who go the “extra mile” to make a real difference to their lives, the charity said.

WellChild is calling on people to put forward their 2015 nominations in all categories for the awards, noting that the event could have a “real impact” on the morale of the winners who provide care and support.

Categories open for nominations for health professionals include “nurse” and “health team”.

The 2014 winners included Bernadette O’Gorman, community matron in charge of Life Force Children’s Palliative Care Service in London; Jo Collins, senior nurse for the children’s continuing care team in East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust; and David Widdas, consultant nurse for children with complex care needs in Warwickshire.

The closing date for entries is 4 May, with the awards ceremony set to take place in London in September.

Visit the WellChild website for more information on nominating a nurse for an award.
