Enuresis award for Surrey school nurse innovation

  • Comment

Social Enterprise scheme Central Surrey Health has won a national award for best employee idea for service innovation.

Central Surrey Health’s 0-19 team won the “Employee Innovation” category in the 2011 Phillip Baxendale Awards, held in November.

School nurse Felicity Hill and her colleagues were given the freedom to lead a re-design of their enuresis service over the summer. This ranged from re-writing policies and introducing more useful assessments to centralising admin and putting forms online.

“The result is a quicker, higher quality and more consistent service,” according to Central Surrey Health. For example, it says:

  • The team now has an additional one hour, 45 minutes a week as a result of streamlining and reducing administration – enabling them to provide the service to more children and their families during the year
  • Parents are feeling more involved earlier in the assessment process
  • By gathering more information from parents and what they’d like, we have increased the time children and their families have in clinic, which has enabled us to reduce the number of times they have to attend. We’ve also increased the ways in which we support and provide advice to families, including face to face time in clinics, phone and email.

The Phillip Baxendale Awardswere launched in 2007 to recognise excellence in achieving successful employee co-ownership.
