School nurses donate presents to victims of domestic violence

Big hearted school nurses in Doncaster have collected around 40 gifts to bring some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than themselves.

The school nurses and health visitors, who all work for Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, donated the presents the borough’s refuge which helps women and their children who are fleeing from domestic violence.

Lynne Schuller, one of trust’s specialist community public health nurses, said: “I heard that the women’s refuge was wanting to give every child in the refuge over the Christmas period a gift, so I asked my work colleagues if they could donate items and I’ve had a fantastic response.

“I hope this brings a little bit of Christmas magic to the young people who find themselves in the women’s refuge this festive season,” she said.

So lovely and humbling. It's at this time of year we truly realise how lucky we are!

  • A lovely gesture! Nurses can also help victims by getting evidence of abuse. The Self Evident App validates when and where photos and videos were recorded and keeps it safe.
