Midlands trusts to partner on community breastfeeding support

South Warwickshire Foundation Trust has announced it is working with George Eliot Hospital Trust to provide a new breastfeeding support service for mothers across Bedworth, Nuneaton and North Warwickshire.

South Warwickshire’s breastfeeding support workers will partner with George Eliot’s community midwives and local health visiting service to provide all breastfeeding mums across the areas with a service which will include initial telephone support and home visits.

In a press release, the trusts said the service was important because of the “immense” public health consequences of mothers not being supported to breastfeed in the early post natal period.

Karen Shorthose, a specialist midwife at George Eliot Hospital, said: “Working with SWFT’s breastfeeding support workers is great for sharing best practice across our organisations and for ensuring our patients have access to the services they need.”

South Warwickshire is one of the three remaining shortlisted bidders to take over the operation of George Eliot, which is considered to be unsustainable as a standalone organisation.
