Traditional medicine classifications to be created

  • Comment

The World Health Organisation is to develop, for the first time, a classification of “traditional medicine”.

It says the project will help create an evidence base for traditional medicine by producing terminologies and classifications for diagnoses and interventions.

WHO assistant director-general of innovation, information, evidence and research Marie-Paule Kieny said: “Use of herbal medicines, acupuncture, and other traditional medicine practices is increasing.

“Global classification and terminology tools for traditional medicine, however, have been lacking.”
