As the NHS continues to face workforce challenges, the attention this week has focused on how the recruitment of people from outside of the UK might look after the UK’s departure from the European Union.
A health toolkit for people with learning disabilities
21 March, 2006
People with learning disabilities are likely to have greater health needs and a shorter lifespan than the majority of the population (Hatton et al, 2003). They have a higher prevalence of both physical and mental health problems, such as epilepsy and schizophrenia, which often interact in complex ways. Some health problems are associated with the aetiology of specific disabling conditions, such as increased rates of dementia in people with Down’s syndrome (Holland et al, 1998).
