A new publication has been launched by the RCN which examine achievements made in mental health care for prisoners.
Prison mental health: vision and reality has been developed by the Centre for Mental Health and the crime reduction charity Nacro.
The publication documents individual experiences of those working on prison mental health in England, as well as inreach team efforts.
It also addresses the issue of the rapid growth of the prison population and how to treat offenders with mental health problems both inside and outside prison.
Reports throughout the last two decades have shown that prisoners have dramatically higher rates of the whole range of mental health problems compared to the general population.
