Health in Pregnancy Grant to end early 2011

The Health in Pregnancy Grant – the one-off payment of £190 for expectant mothers – will come to an end early next year.

Expectant mothers who reach the 25th week of pregnancy before 1 January 2011 will remain eligible for the grant and can apply at any time after their 25th week of pregnancy and before their baby is born. But claim forms must be received by HM Revenue and Customs within 31 days of having been certified by a midwife.

Expectant mothers on low incomes will still be able to apply for Healthy Start vouchers and Sure Start maternity grants.

  • Good! I'm all for giving quality healthcare during and after pregnancy, but for how long were we expected to bankroll peoples lifestyle choices?
