Devon hospital makes French connection

A hospital trust in Devon last week played host to a group of 30 student nurses from France.

The second and third year nursing students were from the ISF Quimper-Corouaille Nursing School in Brittany and visited Plymouth Hospitals Trust’s Derriford site on 3 April.

The trust said the students were keen to visit an NHS acute hospital during their European work exchange programme in Devon.

They met with clinical educators and UK student nurses, hearing about the nursing services offered at Derriford Hospital and the training its student nurses and healthcare assistants undertake.

Sharon Russell, lead clinical educator from Plymouth Hospitals, said: “The visit was a real success and was enjoyable and informative for staff and students alike.

“With support from their interpreters, we were able to have a lively discussion about the similarities and differences in our professions,” she added.

Today's Times (page 22) says that 'every NHS hospital must be doing business abroad within 10 years', under targets set out by a goverment agency (I think it is Healthcare UK, an agency tasked with selling the NHS 'brand' around the world).

Just thought I'd point that out.
