One of the country’s “most experienced frontline nurses” has been appointed to the post of nurse consultant in acute medicine, the trust has announced.

Helen Pickard, a nurse with more than 30 years experience, has joined University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire from Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.

As a nurse consultant, she will devote at least half of her time to direct patient care and the rest to education and research, the trust said.

Acting chief nurse Jill Foster said: “I am delighted that Helen has joined our Trust. Her extensive experience will really enhance the care patients receive.”

Ms Pickard said: “My role enables me to provide leadership and experience that I hope will make a real difference to patient care and staff development.”
