Nurses prefer dorsogluteal jabs to best practice ventrogluteal

Nurses prefer to use the dorsogluteal site for intramuscular injections to adults, despite evidence suggesting that it is not best practice, suggests Canadian research.

The authors said recent nursing literature recommends that the ventrogluteal site, rather than the dorsogluteal site, should be used for these injections.

They surveyed 264 nurses on the issue, finding “nurses are preferentially using the dorsogluteal site over the ventrogluteal site”.
