London South Bank University has received approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council for its new nursing degree programme.
LSBU is one of 12 universities in England and Scotland to receive approval under the NMC’s new education standards for pre-registration nursing, which are being introduced to pave the way for the move to a graduate-only entry profession.
From September 2011 onwards, all pre-registration nursing courses at LSBU will be at degree level.
Dr Warren Turner, pro dean for LSBU’s faculty of health and social care, said: “We have a long-standing reputation as a leading provider of nursing education and it’s only fitting that we lead the way as one of the first universities to receive NMC approval for the new education programme.”
He added: “We are committed to providing the very highest standard of training and the new degree programme offers our students the best possible start to their career, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of the evolving health service.”
