  • Comment

Buckinghamshire New University has won a contract to provide training for theatre staff in the Thames Valley.

The strategic health authority cluster NHS South of England has picked the university to provide education and training for operating department practitioner and other NHS theatre staff across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

The SHA cluster tendered for a single provider for the Dip HE Operating Department Practice programme, in order to standardise the quality of education and training for ODPs across the Thames Valley.

From September 2012 Bucks New University will offer up to 35 places per year to students for a two-year diploma in operating department practice.

The university will also deliver continuing personal and professional development programmes for qualified non-medical theatre practitioners, and will develop training programmes to support the introduction of assistant practitioner roles in operating theatres.
