Former nurse appointed Salisbury chief exec

Peter Hill has been appointed as the new permanent chief executive of Salisbury Foundation Trust.

Mr Hill, a nurse by background, has been interim chief at the trust since September 2012. He has also been chief executive of the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases Foundation Trust on secondment.

He began his career as a nurse and worked in NHS hospitals in Essex, Newcastle and London before coming to Salisbury in 1986.

In Salisbury he progressed through a number of senior nursing and managerial  roles and then became a trust director. He has subsequently held several  different  director level posts, most recently as chief operating officer and deputy chief executive.

The trust’s last permanent chief executive, Caspar Ridley, joined from Univeristy Hospitals Southampton Foundation Trust in early 2012 but left in September.

Mr Hill said: “I am honoured to be appointed chief executive. Clearly the NHS is facing a period of real challenge across the country, but the hospital has an excellent reputation, high quality staff and unprecedented support from our local community.

“It’s essential that we continue to maintain our high standards and I’m proud and pleased to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation as we move forward in the future.”

  • Good luck in your job. It is great to know that a nurse leads the trust, along with the key role of director of nursing & matrons that despite the target based NHS that we live with & cannot avoid, the importance of getting the care of patients right will have the right influence & not forgotton. All trusts CE should be from nursing/midwifery profession somewhere in their career.
