Two more hospital nurses have been arrested by police investigating alleged neglect linked to claims patient notes were falsified.

The women, aged 29 and 40, both come from Bridgend and have been released on bail while the inquiry by South Wales Police continues.

A force spokesman said: “South Wales Police officers continuing to investigate allegations of wilful neglect involving falsification of entries in patients’ notes at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend have confirmed that two further nurses have been arrested and released on bail to return to the police station at a later date.

“They are both female, aged 29 and 40 and come from the Bridgend area,” the spokesman said. “They were both previously suspended by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board as part of their continuing internal investigation.

“The police have continued to keep the families concerned informed of the progress of their investigations,” the spokesman added.

Three women have already been charged as part of the inquiry and a total of 13 nurses have been suspended.

Rebecca Jones, 29, faces nine charges over alleged wilful neglect, while colleagues Lauro Bertulano, 44, and Clare Cahill, 41, both face six counts.

The three defendants, who are all from Bridgend, are accused of failing to check blood glucose levels before allegedly falsifying patients’ notes.

The offences were said to have taken place between September 2012 and January 2013 on a specialist ward at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, south Wales.
