Loyd Grossman to support nursing charity on TV quiz

  • Comment

Broadcaster and chef Loyd Grossman is to try and raise money for a national nursing charity while appearing on a BBC quiz show at the weekend.

Mr Grossman, who is a patron of the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, will be partnering food critic Jay Rayner on the general knowledge quiz Pointless Celebrities, which is presented by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman. Teams try to come up with the answers that no-one else could think of.

The episode featuring Mr Grossman is due to be screened on Saturday 30 August. The theme of the episode is appropriately food and drink.

Mr Grossman recently helped launch the charity’s Edith Cavell Centenary Appeal at the Tower of London. The appeal aims to raise enough money by October 2015 to significantly increase the number of beneficiaries it currently supports.

The Cavell Nurses’ Trust, formerly known as NurseAid, provides support to UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants who are in need of financial help and support.

It was originally set up in 1917 in the wake of the public outcry that followed the execution of nurse Edith Cavell, who helped around 200 allied soldiers escape from German captivity.

While working in occupied Belgium, she was credited with treating injured soldiers from all sides in the conflict.

Following a successful campaign earlier this year, Edith Cavell is to feature on a £5 commemorative coin marking the centenary of WWI.
