Manual handling guide updated

  • Comment

The charity BackCare has published a new edition of its manual handling guide.

The sixth edition of “The Handling of People” is endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing, the NHS Staff Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

BackCare head of research Dr Adam Al-Kashi said the social and economic cost of manual handling mistakes “cannot be underestimated”.

“Back injury due to patient handling remains the number one career-altering event amongst healthcare staff, costing the NHS more than £1m per day₁ and forcing 10 nurses into early retirement every day. Prevention through effective training is the only sustainable option.”

The guide costs £49.99.
