The NMC has appointed the final member of its new governing council.
Ruth Sawtell who is from St Albans in Hertfordshire, will take up her role as a lay member of the council from 1 March 2009 until 31 December 2011.
She has been appointed to fill the final vacancy on the reconstituted NMC Council that took office on 1 January 2009 under the leadership of Professor Tony Hazell.
Ms Sawtell said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining the NMC and contributing to the important work they do to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public.’
Ms Sawtell has been a non-executive director and Mental Health Act manager of Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust since 2001 and has been non-executive director of the charitable housing association Metropolitan Housing Partnership since 2003.
The reconstituted council has seven lay and seven professional members and is the NMC’s first fully appointed council. The recruitment and selection of the reconstituted council was carried out by the independent Appointments Commission.
