Carol Dight has been appointed to the top nursing post at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust, which employs over 4,000 staff, runs Musgrove Park Hospital has more than 700 beds and 30 wards.
Ms Dight, the trust’s former director of operations, was this week unveiled as its new executive director of nursing and governance.
She trained at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in the 1980s and then worked in a number of hospitals across the South West in trauma and orthopaedics, burns and plastics, general surgery and neurology.
She first joined Musgrove Hospital in 1992 before working for the local primary care trust. She returned to Musgrove in March 2003, holding a range of roles including orthopaedic and trauma matron and associate director of nursing and governance in the planned care division.
Speaking about her new appointment Ms Dight said: “I am very excited to be moving into the director of nursing role, I care passionately about patients and their care, and also for the staff that work at Musgrove Park Hospital.
“In this role, I plan to continue to place my focus on the things that really matter to our patients, to be open and transparent and to ensure we learn from our patients at every opportunity so we constantly improve the care we provide to the community we serve,” she added.
