North west trust hunts new top nurse

A Lancashire mental health and community care provider is seeking a new nursing director.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a director of nursing in the wake of the departure of Hazel Richards, after little more than a year in post.

Ms Richards, a 2011 finalist for the Nursing Times “Nurse of the Year”, joined the Lancashire trust as executive director of nursing in May 2012.

She is moving on to take up a national post at NHS England, where she will be working with Gill Harris, the regional director of nursing for the north.

The trust said it was “looking for an experienced director whose main role will be to ensure consistently high standards across this diverse and dispersed organisation and provide strong leadership to its large nursing and non-medical workforce”.

The post is currently being filled on an acting basis by Colin Dugdale, who joined the trust as deputy director of nursing in 2010.

The closing date for applications is noon on 19 July.
