Nurses take a lesson in communication from US Navy

A communication tool first developed by the US Navy is being introduced by nursing staff at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust as a way of improving patient safety.

Situation Background Assessment Recommendation (SBAR) is a simple tool that helps nurses during handover to succinctly detail a patient’s situation, their medical background, inform colleagues about their assessment of a patient and recommend future care.
