Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust

Nursing director to become interim chief exec at Trafford Healthcare

  • Comment

Morag Olsen has been appointed acting chief executive of Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust.

She will replace Ron Calvert, who is leaving to become chief executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Ms Olsen is currently director of nursing and operations at the trust. She will take up her new post on 1 September 2011.

The trust is not recruiting to the chief executive post, as it is seeking acquisition by a neighbouring NHS foundation trust because it considers itself too small to remain viable on its own.

It hopes to select its preferred foundation partner by the end of summer but the earliest possible date for completion of the acquisition is 1 April 2012. For that reason, Ms Olsen’s appointment initially runs until 31 March 2012.

She originally joined the trust in February 2008 from the Department of Health, where she was responsible for helping trusts achieve the national cancer waiting-time targets and the 18-week referral to treatment targets.

Prior to that, she held senior positions at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Trust chair Fay Selvan said: “Morag will bring a wealth of clinical and management experience to her new role as acting chief executive.

“In addition to her nursing background, she has already provided ample evidence since coming to Trafford that she is a talented and very effective leader.”
