Shropshire hospital trust appoints director of nursing

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Jayne Downey as its director of nursing and governance.

She will join the Oswestry based trust at the beginning of March.

Ms Downey joins the specialist orthopaedic trust from her role as deputy director of governance, quality and nursing at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where she has worked for the last five years.

Prior to that, she was head of governance and risk management at North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

She said: “I am looking forward to getting to know and working with the team at RJAH. The orthopaedic has a fantastic reputation for quality and I hope we can enhance this even further.”

Ms Downey qualified in 1989 at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, being promoted from staff nurse to ward manager.

Then she became directorate nurse at Wrightington Hospital before being appointed as regional manager for the NHS Litigation Authority.

She has also worked in conjunction with a number of other regulatory bodies such as National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the Care Quality Commission.
