Memory loss little affect on mealtimes for dementia patients at home

Patients living at home with dementia are usually able to manage mealtime tasks and use coping strategies to remain independent, a small Swedish study suggests.

Researchers interviewed 15 dementia patients and found “memory loss did not affect their mealtime tasks in any great way”, with most relying on old habits and routines.

The authors said: “It is important that caregivers are aware of the fact that persons with dementia who still live at home value independence highly.”
