Nearly three-quarters of GP practices are offering extended opening hours, according to latest government figures.
Of the 8,250 practices surveyed by the Department of Health, 6,159 (74.7%) offered extended opening hours. The government set a target of 50% of all surgeries offering this service by October 2008.
Nearly all (99.3%) commissioners achieved the goal of 50% of practices providing the option. However, only three primary care trusts (2%) could say this of all their practices.
