Safer prescribing in prisons guide published

  • Comment

The Royal College of GPs has published the first ever guidance on safer prescribing in prisons.

The guidance looks at a range of clinical areas including possession of medicines, pain, depression, psychoses and insomnia.

It also deals with issues such as medication misuse and the trading of medications between inmates.

It has been written to assist clinicians working in prisons but the college says it has relevance for those working in other secure environments, such as custody nurses.
