A Blackburn nurse has won a scholarship to study diabetic foot ulcers in Australia and the US.
Kath Eccles, a diabetic foot specialist nurse at the RoyalBlackburnHospital, will spend a month visiting both centres of excellence and remote populations where diabetes incidence is high. Among those she will be spending time with are aborigines in Queensland, Australia and Prima Indians in Phoenix, Arizona.
She said: 'I'm sure that I will learn much about both the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulceration from the visit and be able to bring about improvements for patients in East Lancashire, as well as hopefully sharing some of my knowledge and experience.'
Ms Eccles' trip is being financed by the Florence Nightingale Foundation.
