Manchester triage system can be applied to paediatrics

  • Comment

The Manchester triage system can be successfully applied to paediatric emergency care, according to Dutch researchers.

They compared results between 43 nurses triaging 20 written case scenarios using the triage system, which is widely used for adults in the UK, and assessed how the system worked live for patients aged under 16 at two emergency departments.

They found strong agreement between nurses assessing case scenarios and good performance in the real life settings. The authors said: “The Manchester triage system showed good to very good repeatability in paediatric emergency care.”
