Trust formally appoints new director of nursing

Diane Sarkar has been formally appointed director of nursing at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

She has held the post on an interim basis since September.

Trust chair Michael Large said Ms Sarker had already begun introducing reforms such as changing the nursing directorate to a directorate of quality, innovation and patient safety, and developing a future strategy for the trust’s nursing and midwifery structure.

Ms Sarker said: “I will be concentrating on raising the bar on quality and putting the patient at the heart of everything we do.”

  • I hope this change of director of nursing will herald a positive ipmprovement in the standards of care for this dismal place. Over the last 3 years I have had the misfortune to have relatives "cared for" in this poor excuse for a hospital and have experienced the appalling nursing care.
I wish Diane good luck and hope that she can motivate her nurses to give their patients the nursing they should receive.
