Care home reopens with Alice in Wonderland tea party

Residents, staff and friends of Bupa’s Maypole Nursing Centre dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland to celebrate the reopening of the home following a £442,000 refurbishment.

Residents and visitors were invited to attend the Mad Hatter’s tea party then take a tour of the centre and grounds.

The refurbishment has included ensuring that every bedroom has new furniture, curtains, fittings, and flat screen TVs and internet access.

Care home manager, Nikki Simpson is thrilled with the changes and said: “With the home looking as fantastic as it does I know that the residents and employees are looking forward to showing it off to the local community. The Alice in Wonderland theme has not only got both residents and staff very excited, but also brought out their creative side.”

  • Is it only me who finds this theme inappropriate, this is not a nursery school opening. There is a country wide problem with treating older people like children and this highlights the issue.
