Immunotherapy for C difficile prevention

A new method of treating and preventing C difficile, which could be used in conjuction with antibiotics or replacement, is being developed by the Health Protection Agency.

The immunotherapeutic treatment, which is in the early stages of development, would use antibodies to neutralise toxins produced by C difficile. The HPA expects to start clinical trials within the next three years.
