Stroke services at St George’s Healthcare Trust in south west London were rated the best in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The National Sentinel Audit for Stroke, organised by the Royal College of Physicians, assessed quality of care at over 200 trusts.
Overall it concluded that many aspects of acute care have improved over the last two years, but post acute services have not kept up and there is a lack of access to long term rehabilitation services.
There also continues to be a problem ensuring patients are admitted directly to stroke units instead of being treated on general wards.
