Staff planning to be more devolved

  • Comment
More control over nurse workforce planning will be handed to local managers following Lord Darzi’s report on the future of the NHS, health employment experts have predicted.

Speaking at an NHS Employers conference in London last week, they said the report, due to be published in July, was likely to cause major changes in the way managers plan workforce needs.

David Amos, director of workforce at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

‘The majority of workforce planning will be taking place at employer level.’

Judy Curson, director of the NHS Workforce Review Team, said employers would have to retrain existing staff.

‘Employers have to start building with the workforce that is available to them,’ she said.
