North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has appointed a senior nurse to its board as executive director.
Maria Nelligan has been made the mental health and learning disability trust’s substantive executive director of nursing and quality.
Ms Nelligan is currently associate director of nursing and therapies and also director of infection prevention and control at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
She will take up the executive director of nursing role at North Staffordshire in October 2015.
The trust said Ms Nelligan had a passion for patient experience and a reputation for being a compassionate nurse, a supportive manager and a leader in nursing development.
Announcing the appointment, chief executive Caroline Donovan said it was “great news that someone of Maria’s calibre will be joining the trust”.
“She will be spending time with us on a phased induction over the course of the next few months, getting out and about and meeting people until she starts full-time on Monday 12 October,” she said.
Ms Nelligan is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Chester and is also a trustee at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Chester.
