VOL: 97, ISSUE: 21, PAGE NO: 45

CHRIS METCALF, GASTROENTEROLOGY ENDOSCOPY NURSE SPECIALIST, WEST HERTS NHS TRUST, WATFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Complications associated with a stoma can all, potentially, result in leakage from the patient's appliance, and sore skin. In the event of complications, the expertise of the stoma care nurse will be required. Often a trial and error approach will be taken when dealing with a complication. If any complication becomes too problematic, referral back to the surgeon is advocated.
