'Should I put my nurse training before my family?'

Posted by Katrina Michelle RowanSat, 20 Mar 2010

Quite a few times over the past two years my role as a mother has conflicted with my role as a student nurse.

'Seeing the patients forge friendships and share stories is fantastic'

My little girl has learnt two valuable lessons this week. The first was discovering that oxo cubes are not chocolates. The second was concerning death.

Why nursing theory is just as important as practice

Posted by Katrina Michelle RowanFri, 8 Jan 2010

Students place so much value on the experiences they gain in practice. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this shouldn’t be the case but I think sometimes people forget about the importance of the theory side of the course.

Congress - what an adventure!

Posted by Katrina Michelle RowanFri, 15 May 2009

Congress – what an amazing adventure. I have had three fantastic days. Congress was so much more than I thought it would be. I have come away exhilarated and full of enthusiasm, it was such a fantastic opportunity and I am so glad I jumped at the chance to attend.

A student nurse takes a trip to RCN Congress

Posted by Katrina Michelle RowanMon, 11 May 2009

I am a typical girl when it comes to going away. Tomorrow afternoon I am leaving my family behind to go away for three nights. I am very excited, I have packed a ridiculous amout of clothes, I’ve gone a bit silly concerning party dresses and I’m wondering is four pairs of shoes to many? Tomorrow I am going to RCN Congress!

School holidays – don’t you just love them? It’s the ‘holiday’ bit that makes me laugh. I’m sure someone with a vindictive sense of humour designed that word. I don’t think student nurses who are also parents actually get holidays.
