Student Nursing Times’ student editor for mental health branch, Becky Kidman, is to take over the @StudentNT twitter feed on Tuesday 30 September.
The day will be dedicated to mental health care but aimed at all student nurses. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to find out more about mental health care, ask questions and challenge current practice.
Becky will be placing particular focus on how students can manage their own mental health while studying nursing.
The takeover will begin at 9am, with several planned events throughout the day. Student nurses can drop in at any time, using the hashtag #SNTtakeover to join in.
12pm – Personal Trauma
An opportunity to discuss experiences of personal trauma, coping mechanisms and how you can seek support. Student nurses are invited to share their advice for coping with personal trauma during this chat.
3pm – Disclosing Mental Health Issues
Do students feel able to disclose their own mental health issues on placement and at university? How has doing so affected relationships on placement and with lecturers? Share your experiences and advice.
5pm – Personality Disorders
Becky asks: ‘Are personality disorders covered appropriately in nurse training?’ Join this chat to share how you would like to be taught about personality disorders, and to ask any questions you might have about this diagnosis.
7pm - Open house
Any questions? Share what’s on your mind with the rest of the student nurse community.
Everyone joining in or watching the twitter takeover will be able to access a selection of normally paid-for articles for free throughout the day.
