‘How can I overcome homesickness?’

  • Comment

Can you advise this student nurse?

“I’m from a rural community (my parents live on a farm) so when I decided to do my nurse training I had no option but to move away from home.

“I thought I’d be ok with it – I’m 20 so am old enough to fly the nest! But I just came home for Christmas and can’t stand the thought of going back. Not because I’m not enjoying the course (I love it) but because I just get so homesick.

“I know it’s pathetic but every time I’m on the phone to my family I feel really sad and being at home now after 3 months away is making me realise just how much I miss it.

“Is this something anyone else has felt? I know the only cure is time but it would be really good to hear that I’m not the only person who has struggled with this!”
