How do I get through to patients?

  • Comment

“I’m a mental health student in my second year. So far I have been really pleased with how my training has been going, but there’s one area I am struggling to deal with so I was hoping I might be able to find out how other people deal with this.

“Non-engagement from patients. I find it really, really disheartening. When they don’t engage with me, or even listen to me, I feel defeated. I am trying to give everything I can, but it’s often like talking to a brick wall. My mentor pretty much told me to get used to it, but I haven’t so far!

“Does it get easier? Or do I need a better approach for getting through to people?”
