How easy is it to get your first job in nursing?

What do you think? How easy is it for newly qualified nurses to find their first job?

During last week’s student nurse twitchat, we asked 3rd year nurses how they are finding the job market as a soon-to-be newly qualified nurses.

While many of you told us you had a job lined up to start when you qualify, others were having a more difficult time and some of you told us you’d had to take band 3 posts while waiting for band 5 posts to come up.

What do you think?

  • Does the area you live in affect your chances of getting on the job ladder?
  • Are employers willing to take on newly qualified nurses?
  • How soon before you finish your course should you start looking for jobs?
  • Any tips for those looking?

  • There has been a lot of recruitment in manchester. However, there are three nursing schools within the vicinity.
I think I was very lucky to get offered a job on my first interview at a recruitment day. The job offer was for my management and leadership placement ward.

I've friends who are on their fourth interview and seventh application form.

I applied in june 2013, and finished my degree in july.
