'I want to be a nurse but the occupational hazards scare me'

Do you have any advice for this potential student nurse?

“I flirt with the idea of working in healthcare sometimes and would probably consider training to be a nurse, but was seriously put off when I saw a nurse get bitten in A&E. Nurses are put at risk because of patients. Also the thought of occupational exposure to severe illnesses scares me.

“Can anyone give me their insight into this? I know I will appreciate it.”

  • IMHO, if you want to be a nurse, you'll do it. Yes, there's occupational hazards, maybe more than some jobs, but there are measures in place to keep risks to a minimum. And to be fair, A&E is like the Ground Zero of healthcare.
