'My flatmate might just ruin my first year'

  • Comment

Can you advise this student nurse?

“I’ve just started my first year at uni and everything was going really well.

”I like my halls, they’re just what I wanted and my lectures are interesting and I’m doing well in our practical sessions. I’ve even found a club I like and I’ve met some really interesting people through it.

“The only problem I’m having is with my flatmate.

”I hadn’t met her before we moved into halls together, but she seemed nice enough for the first week or so of term. We would say hi to each other when our paths crossed but we both had the understanding that we weren’t going to be close friends, but we were still going to be friendly with each other.

”But in the last couple of weeks she has started to be a nightmare to live with. She watches TV and listens to music without headphones on while everyone in our flat is trying to sleep, and turns all the lights on in the middle of the night. I don’t think she’s done any washing up since she moved in, she just leaves everything she uses on the side for someone else to clear up.

”The start of my degree has been so amazing so far, these flatmate struggles aside, and I just really don’t want it to ruin my first year at! What should I do?”
