Student grants: how do I get one?

You may also be eligible for a student grant, have you looked into it?

What are student grants?

Student grants are grants to help higher education students, particularly those from less affluent backgrounds, with their general living costs while they study.

Am I eligible?

The amount of money you can receive, if any, depends on your income or that of your parents/ partner. Currently, you have to have a household income of less than £50,020 to qualify for a student grant.

If you do receive a student grant the amount of money you get from a student loan may be reduced, this is because it is assumed that if you are getting money from a grant you’ll not need as much from a student loan.

Do I have to pay the money back?

Student grants do not have to be paid back and you can apply for one at the same time and in the same way as applying for a student loan.
