  • In this mentor debate there seems to be a confusion between teaching and mentoring. All mentors are teachers but not all teachers are mentors.
Not all nurse are suited to or wanting to be mentors but all can teach.

  • everybody has their strengths and weaknesses, personal preferences and dislikes and if somebody feels they are not cut out for this role and do not wish to do it, perhaps the choice should be up to them. better to refuse than make a poor job of it and it is better for them to focus on their other skills which they are more interested in and hopefully better at. Forcing people into roles they are not prepared for or to carry out just puts an extra and unwanted burden on them.
