‘What’s with all the negativity?’

  • Comment

Can you advise this student nurse?

“I’m about to start my course and am excited.

“I’m spending my time trying to find out as much as I can about nursing and what to expect from my course, and most of what I’ve read has been really helpful and made me more excited.

“But what’s with all the negativity? Every now and then I’ll read a comment from a nurse saying “roll on retirement”, I’ve stumbled across complaints about poor pay and poor working conditions and there just seems to be so much anger.

“I have family members who are nurses and although they admit that it’s not the best paid job in the world, they’re pretty adamant that it’s still the best career they could have gone into and have no regrets.

“I’m refusing to let it put me off, but just want to hear from other students if this is having an effect on them? Do you think this is just one or two nurses with loud voices who regret their career choice or is there widespread dissatisfaction?”
