Will I get sick a lot once I'm working?

This student is worried about picking up bugs. Can you put their mind at ease?

  • yes-but remember infections go both way. One patient can infect some people but as a student you could infect the entire ward! Observe procedures, and try and live healthly -don't laugh get rest, hydration, walk or run outside and get at least 3 of your five a day to build your resources up.
Why do other people not respond to these questions?Staff asking for advice and other more experienced
    people not bothering to respond.

  • I agree with you Anonymous. There must be thousands of nurses reading these pages and they must be really experienced. And these amazing students who are training to be nurses are asking for help here.

  • As long as you are up to date with all necessary vaccinations, i.e, HepB, MMR, then you shouldn't really catch drastic infections. However, correct use of PPE whenever you have direct pt contact will maximise yours and theirs safety. All the best.
