  • Comment

The UK swine flu total has jumped to 428 after 23 new cases were confirmed in England and one in Wales. Eight of the new cases are in the South East.

Meanwhile, among 84 cases confirmed in Scotland, the hardest hit region per head of population, two woman and a man are in intensive care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. A second man is critical but stable in Glasgow’s Victoria Infirmary.

At Eton College in Berkshire, six pupils have been confirmed with the virus. The school said it is not in a position to confirm numbers of positive or possible cases. The school, which was attended by Princes William and Harry, will on Friday decide whether or not to reopen as planned on Sunday.

The World Health Organization has warned that it is on the brink of declaring a global pandemic as the virus appears to be taking a greater hold outside North America.
